In reality, a police officer would not assume anyone is home when Kevin was in the house as they would actually get him to come out of the house so that they could bring him to his family. When the characters are in the upstairs hallway, the walls change back and forth from being covered with a hunt club green wallpaper to being painted in a shade of green slightly different from the wallpaper. This is because some of the scenes were recreated on a sound stage at New Trier High School and they had to try and match the colors as best they could. The stained glass window in the church is different in the interior and exterior shots. Seen from outside, it has four panels, while inside it has seven.
When the female police officer transfers Mrs. McCallister to Sgt. Balzak in the Crisis Center, a crew member's reflection is seen in the glass just above the stenciled word "center." Harry protects his burnt hand with a handkerchief when he climbs along the rope towards the tree house, but alternating shots show the tail of the handkerchief either sticking out or not. When the crime-boss in the "Angels with Filthy Souls" movie shoots Snakes with the Thompson gun, it makes just a few brief thin-sounding bursts of rapid-fire. While Kevin is in the kitchen with the whole family. Buzz is clearly stuffing the last piece of Kevin's pizza in his mouth. In the next shot he is shown with half a piece of pizza in his hand and his mouth is not stuffed.
Where Is the Home Alone House?
Immediately after landing in Paris, Peter McCallister leaves a message on the Murphys' answering machine while Marv and Harry are burglarizing it. The phones are still supposed to be down, and since the Murphys live across the street from the McCallisters, their phone service should be down as well. Harry is seen wearing a wedding ring in the shot where Marv tries to kill the spider that is on Harry's chest.
Before Kevin's family goes to France, a repair man tells Kate the phone lines will take a few days to get fixed yet Kate manages to phone the police when the family arrive in Paris which should be impossible. The police Kate phones was probably located some distance from their home, and the phone lines there were not damaged. Kevin manages to set up all of his traps in less than an hour. Several of those traps would take at least an hour to do by themselves. For example, the water on the porch and basement steps would not freeze into a thick layer of ice within an hour. The Daisy BB gun shown on Buzz's wall is used as a pump-action; however, the real model is lever-action.

I actually grew up living in two old until we moved when I was around 13, but I never appreciated their high ceilings, deep moldings, and fireplaces until I was grown and thought back on those spaces. And because Home Alone is all about Christmas most of the decor was strategically red or green. The staircase looks completely different the walls are painted in a chic shade of grey the kitchen has plain white cupboards and the giant office has a piano instead of the McCallisters festive décor. Between snow and holiday parties, it was pretty festive & fun over here.
I love symmetric houses, and Georgian style is one of my favorite – and I partly blame Home Alone for that , as I’m only 2 years older then the movie. I love living in a colonial home because they’re rare here in Utah , and you all know I love balance and symmetry. It’s a very classic and traditional exterior look. Our house is obviously not as grand as others mentioned here, but the scale doesn’t bother me, nor does it make it less of a colonial.

Gone are the days of green and red wallpaper and red carpeting on the stairs in the foyer – now replaced with modern grey paint and blue & white carpeting. The kitchen has also undergone some extensive work, now featuring elegant white shaker cabinets, green tile backsplash, and a small breakfast bar. The tacky wallpaper in the master suite has been replaced with a chic grey & white striped print. Additionally, the once hardwood floors are now decked out in white carpeting.
When Kevin is rifling through Buzz's trunk, a box of Junior Mints moves around between shots. When Kevin accidentally steals a toothbrush from a drug store, the cop who chases him falls on the ice after getting hit by a hockey player. When Harry and Marv are in the van and Harry is listing the automatic light cues, when Harry lists #671, the McCallisters' house, we can see the lights turn on in their reflection on the van's windshield.
Everyone oversleeps and it’s mad chaos the next morning when the airport van arrives to pick everyone up for the flight to Europe. Kevin is forgotten and left peacefully sleeping in his attic room. The family is over the ocean, well on the way to Europe before this is discovered. All flights are booked so it takes days for Kevin’s mom, Kate, who is played by Catherine O’Hara, to get back home to check on Kevin. The father, Peter, played by John Heard, stays with the rest of the family on the trip. I actually learned a lot of this from watching, The Movies That Made Us… did anyone else watch that series?
If you want to compare your own home to the Home Alone House, according to Realtor.com, the house is 4,243 square feet and sits on a lot size of just over half an acre. In 2012, the Abendshiens, empty nesters at that point, sold the Winnetka house for a reported $1.585 million. Understandably, the current owners don’t want to be that vocal about their ownership of one of the most popular houses in the country and haven’t been seen on camera.
Near the end of the film, as Kevin looks out of the window to see Marley reunited with his son, a hand holding a camera is clearly visible. When Marv and Harry are arguing in the van, they realize they are about to hit Kevin and screech to a stop. But the distance they had to stop was not enough time to avoid hitting Kevin. Nor did the distance shown at first match the next scene.

Remaining scenes filmed in the McCallister house were recreated or duplicated on a soundstage built in the gymnasium of the former campus of New Trier Township High School. The movie gained such notoriety that today, “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” around the time TV channels start runningHome Alonefor the millionth time. Inside the home, officers found a 2-year-old boy on the couch and a fire in the kitchen. One officer removed the 2-year-old from the residence while another officer entered and checked for any other people in the home.
